Welcome to www.spinoniitaliani.com. The Spinoni Italiano is believed to be one of the oldest gundogs in existance and is thought to have been developed in the Piedmont region of Itlay. Its ancesters not certain but thought possibly to be of Spanish setters and Russian pointers. Other theories exist as to the ancestry of the Spinone but no one is positively sure. The Spinone excels at hunting close or in dense cover and in retrieving from water. It is a stocky dog and hunts at a brisk trot rather than running. The average weight is 80 lbs and its average height is 25 inches tall at the shoulder. The tail is docked half length. The hair coat is tough, wiry and close to the body. The colors are white, white and orange ticked, orange roan or white with brown markings. The Spinone has webbed feet and dew claws on all legs. Other breeds of dogs may also be found on this website.
